The fail list!

I-88 in New York State between Albany and Binghamton. A real mess, especially where they aded a third lane for slower traffic. Some of the cracks in the concrete have grass and weeds growing through them.

I-75 in Michigan from the Ohio border, north to mile marker 47. Same thing south bound. Some of the bumps are so bad that it kicks my cruise control off.

I-78 in Pennsylvania. Even the AAA billboards say it's so!

I-87 south of Albany. They're doing work near Harriman and it's scary! This is also the toll section. You'd think that the tolls would pay for better, but alas, no!

There's more to come.

Highway 401 thru Toronto

As a suggestion from my numerous and wonderful viewers;

Highway 401 in Toronto. Ah yes... the construction sites of Eternity!

How many more years will it take for them to finish that section around Yonge Street. They've been at it for years now.

It took them almost a year to remove an overpass and side supports near Whitby.

Did they get a lifetime contract? Work in perpetuity?!? No wonder that Ontario is broke. Next we'll be calling it Quebec-West. At least work is being done.

I-88 East in NY

Wow! This wins first prize for the worst intrastate Interstate highway!!!

It starts in Binghamton at I-81 and goes to Schenectady near Albany. You are first introduced with a firm shaking for 5 miles. It doesn't matter whether you going east-west or west-east, it's the same either way. Things smooth out for a bit but only for a bit. With the exception of the occasional nice (and short) patch you are continuously shaken and bounced for its entire 122 mile length. Patches are seldom level with surrounding roadbed. Expansion joints... Six Flags parks can't compete. Don't drink from your travel mug during these crossings otherwise you'll be wearing it. Keep both hands on the steering wheel and pucker your butt or you'll need an underwear change later.

Makes you wonder what they really do with the funding they receive from the feds, eh?

Quebec - A-40

To be fair, lets start with my home province of Quebec where most roads are noteworthy for their "bounciness" and washboard effect! Entering Quebec from Hwy 401 is mostly fine until KM 9 since it was repaved last year. Yet they paved over a already rotten roadbed so there are already signs of stress.

Then all shit breaks loose until you reach the new interchange being constructed for the A-30 extension. Potholes are called "Les nids de poules" translation: chicken nests, owing to their size. Yes you can hide a chicken in any one of these.

One of the two bridges on Hwy 40 at Vaudrueil is currently under construction and the diversion will knock your suspension to hell.

Quebec is the poster-boy for how not to build or repair roads. Patches on patches, crumbing overpasses, tons of concrete raining down on unsuspecting motorists. Come for a visit, leave your car/truck parts behind.

Got a road that you think sucks, let me know. If I travel it, I might blog about it.
